I offer individual tuition to A-level, undergraduate and postgraduate law students who want to develop a clearer understanding of legal subjects and greater confidence in analysing and arguing legal problems.

My approach is not based on learning more material. It is about understanding how the law fits together, identifying the real issue in a problem or essay question, and constructing a clear and persuasive legal argument.

At undergraduate and postgraduate level, my principal areas are:

I can also help with the development and structure of dissertations and extended legal writing, while respecting the academic integrity requirements of your university.

A-level Law

I also offer tuition to A-level Law students. This can be general support with the course or focused help with particular topics, cases, problem questions and examination technique.

About me

I hold a PhD in Law from De Montfort University, where my doctoral research concerned tracing at common law. I also hold an LLM with Distinction in Business and Commercial Law.

During my doctoral studies I taught undergraduate and postgraduate law students. Before retiring from full-time work, I spent more than forty years in business, including sixteen years as in-house counsel and twenty-five years in senior corporate management.

That combination of academic research, teaching and practical experience influences the way I teach. I am interested not simply in what the law says, but in why it says it, whether the reasoning works, and how a student can analyse it critically.

How tuition works

Tuition is one-to-one and tailored to the particular student.

You may want help understanding a topic that simply has not clicked, discussing a difficult case, working through a problem question, developing an essay argument, or making sense of an area of law that currently seems impenetrable.

The starting point is what you do not understand. We work from there.
